IMPASSABLE ROAD.
GLEN EDEN PETITION.
NO MONEY FOR REPAIRS.
A petition signed by 108 residents asking for the metalling of Clayburn Road, stated to bo quite impassable, was presented to tho Glen Eden Town Board on Mondav.
Mr. W. Butterfield, who presented the potiiion, said that as tho result of motorists using chains on the road it was in a hopeless condition. It was suggested that it should be closed to traffic, as it was in a dangerous state. Motor-cars were frequently stuck in tho clay and recently a child being sent to hospital had to be carried on a stretcher the full length of the road, as tho ambulance could not pass over it. Thero was also a serious lack of street lights in the vicinity. Tho chairman, Mr. W. E. Martin, said no money was available out of revenue for metalling the road. The work would cost £9OO and he recalled that ratepayers recently had rejected a loan for the purpose of improving this particular road. Application had again been made to the Local Government Loans Board for further permission to raise money. It was hoped ratepayers would again be given a chanco to sanction a loan within a month, but in the meantime nothing could be done.
