Second grade bcof was distributed in western cities. Representatives of big meat companies and also of several of the principal cattle agents along the Californian coast, Mr. Bragg said, had told him that people in Western America would rather eat good frozen beef from Australia than second grade chilled beef from tho middle States. Mr. Bragg said ho spent two months in tho interior of Peru, and crossed tho Andes at a height of 16.000 ft. on muleback to tho waters of the Amazon River to ascertain the pastoral possibilities of tho country, but ho found that the country was too .rocky and mountainous to carry stock.
