SEVENTY-ONE DESCENDANTS.
PARENTS BORN IN DOMINION.
To be born in New Zealand and have 71 descendents, all born in the Dominion, is the proud' record of Mr. and Mrs. \\. E. Bumnand, of 8, Pentland Avenue, Mount Eden. Mr. Burnnand will be 72 years of age to-morrow, and his wife is a year younger. Their children number 18, and there are 42 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Mr. Burnnand's father, the late Mr. G. I. Burnnand, arrived at Auckland from Scarborough, England, in 1842. After a somewhat varied career he set up business as a bootmaker in Wyndham Street, where ho had a shop for many years. Mr. W. E. Burnnand was born in 1857, and at the age of 17 married Miss M. T. Painter, of Maraetai. For a number of years ho was engaged in bush felling. "We used no clocks then," ho said. " When tho sun rose it was time to start work, and when it went down it was time to knock off, winter and summer alike." Coming to Auckland from Maraetai, Mr. Burnnand was engaged in many and varied occupations. lie bought a section at Sylvia Park, where for a number of years ho was engaged in poultry farming in a small way, more for a pastime than for piofit. lie enjoyed perfect health until about 18 months ago.
