BEACONS IN THE CITY.
THE POWER BOARD TOWER.
SCHEME NOW ABANDONED. The proposal of the Auckland Power Board to erect a beacon light on the tower of its now building at the intersection of Queen and Durham Streets has been abandoned in favour of a scheme of floodlighting similar' to that employed 011 other buildings in tho city. At a meeting of tho board yesterday, the chairman, Mr. W. J. Ifoldsworth, said that the proprietors of tho new Civic Theatre intended to erect a beacon on tho tower of tho now building now in course of construction on the Civic Square. He doubted whether Auckland was largo enough to support two beacon lights so close together, as ono would detract from the other. He suggested that the idea of erecting such a light on the board's building should be deferred, and instead that a system of flooding the front should bo adopted. Tho suggestion was approved.
