SUNDAY OBSERVANCE.
IMPORTANCE TO THE PEOPLE. VIEWS OF WAIKATO SYNOD. [ny TELEGRAPH. OWN CORRESPONDENT.] HAMILTON. Friday. The debate on Sunday observance was briefly terminated at a meeting of the Waikato Diocesan Synod this cvoning when Bishop Cherrington asked leave to withdraw his motion and substitute the amendment proposed by the Rev. R. L Connolly (To Aroha). The amendment was as follows"That in the opinion of this synod tho proper observance of tho Lord's Day is a matter affecting the spiritual and national life of tho people, and synod calls upon all church people to give the matter more serious thought.'"
The bishop said his idea was to draw public attention to the due and propor observance of the Lord's Day and that was what was in his mind when writing in the diocesan magazine and in speaking on the subject. The motion was carried in tho form suggested.
Tho motion which was moved by tho bishop was as follows:—"That tho duo and propor observance of the Lord's Day is a matter affecting tho simplicity a'jd freedom of tho Gospel '
