A NEW COMPETITION.
CAN YOU WRITE A STORY? Here is an excellent idea for a ne.w competition for our boys and girls, sent by Billie Lindsay, Marsh Street, Tauranga, who has been awarded a ten-mark card for the same: "Give a number of characters, and a short description oi each, then let the children write a story including all the characters " Here are the characters: Mas and Peter Pickles, 12 and 14 years of age; their pup Stingo; Pa -Pickles, who keeps a grocer's shop just round the corner; Miss Agatha Pim, who hates pups and is very shortsighted; Gwendoline Jinks, ten-year-old daughter of the local fishmonger, and her pet cat Dorrisdaffodil. Gwendoline likes to pretend she is really the longlost daughter of. the Duchess of Ditchwater, and dislikes the Pickles boys exceedingly. Now make up a story, up to 450 words, introducing all these characters! Open to members tilEnat.l> Circles only, boys and girls from 13 to 15 (juruor) and 16 to 18 (senior).
