I A notable feature of the Birthday Page contests was the improvement in the standard of the original stories. Several j Of those, which have been " commended " j will be used in oui page later on, and will be awarded prizes when they appear lhe special heading contest was dnsap pointing. John Jamison's drawing awarded piace of honour in our page last week was a splendid piece of work, and j well deserved pride of place. Marv (Jruickshank also submitted a delicately drawn design, not so striking as John's, but an excellent pieco of work, vrith a well-prmted title, which was used with the winning sketch. Mary's drawing appears in our page to-day. She was awarded a special award for her skelch. The essay contest, My Own Country brought some very good- entries, but the poems on " The Land We Love " were not quite so successful as in other con tests Howevei, the subject was perhaps, rather a difficult one for our'voung poets, so something easier will be selected ne.\t time.
Congratulations to all those whose names appear in the list to-day, and thanks to all thoso boys and girls, who helped to make our Birthday Pago a success!
