WINTER SHOW FRUIT DISPLAY.
Sir, —To-day's Herald reports that the judge of the fruit section of the Winter Exhibition expressed surprise at the paucity o: entries from fruitgrowing districts sucn as Huapai, Henderson and Albany, and that, such districts, he thought, should give greater support to the show. I feel sure that in the minds of many growers is the feeling that their fruit, which leaves the orchard in perfect condition, very often leaves much t/0 bo desired in the way of quality and perfection after being handled several times and three months' storage, and that a display on any great scale might ho prejudicial to the industry under existing conditions. When tho Winter Exhibition is held some time in April, which I understand is suggested, the support accorded by all fruitgrowers may veiy easily leave nothing to be desired, and visitors will doubtless be able to form a truer conception of the progress of fruitgrowing in the Auckland Province. July 4, 1929. Grower.
