[BY TELEGRAPH.-—SPECIAL REPORTER. 1 WELLINGTON. Friday Because a typist struck the wrong key tho cumbrous machinery of Parliament was invoked by Mr. E J. Howard (Chris tchurct) South) tn the House of Representatives this afternoon.
When privato business was called Mr. Howard roso to seek permission foi tho Christ's College (Canterbury) Bill, which was almost identical with a private measure passed by the previous Parliament, to be allowed to proceed as a public bill. Mr. Howard said tho object was to alter the figure eight mentioned in the Act to the figure six. Tho mistake has arisen through a typist's error. Tho Leader of the Opposition, Mr. Coates: What is the effect of tho alteration in tho figures?
Mr. J. A. Young (Hamilton): Does it concern acres, money, a number of people or what?
The mystery was cleared up by Mr. Howard. The intention of the Act, he said, had been to give Christ's College the right over certain land and reference had been mado to clause eight of the original Act, but there was no clause eight. Tho reference was intended to be to clause six. Instead ol paying £25 to correct ono figure it was desired to make the amendment in the way ho proposed. Ho quoted the precedent of tho lato Mr. Massey's similar action.
The House signified its assent to tho step, jind tho bill was read a first time.
