AWARDS FOR BRAVERY.
ROYAL HUMANE SOCIETY. RESCUES FROM DROWNING. [by. telegraph.—press association.] CHRISTCHURCH. Friday. At a meeting of the court of directors of the Royal Humane Society of New Zealand the following awards for bravery were made:— William Gell, aged 23, Te Araroa.— Stiver medal for attempting to rescue a man from drowning in shark-infested water at Tupaki Rock, January 27,1929. Mr. Gell was brought ashore exhausted by Charles Pupa, aged 35, who was awarded a silver medal. Mrs. Water Scott, aged 31, Karangarua, South Westland, was awarded a certificate for rescuing a young woman from drowning on December: 17, 1928. Allan William Henderson, aged 16£, and Noel Francis James Gardiner, aged 16, New Plymouth, were awarded silver medals for rescuing a boy from drowning on March 3, 1929.
