CONVALESCENT HOME.
Sir, —According to the published reports of the last meeting of the Hospital Board a suggestion was made that the board should purchase the Cintra property for the purpose of providing*) a convalescent home for hospital patients. It was not, however, carried. I feel quite sure . that if, Mr. Wallace, chairman of the . board,. came boldly forward with a strong recommendation to purchase this property he would have the support and approval, of the citizens. There is no site in the City of Auckland more suitable for the purposes *of a convalescent home; There can be no- doubt of the necessity for such.. The hospital is overcrowded at all times. Many patients are discharged before they are sufficiently recovered from operations; or illnesses to make room for other cases. The benefits of much of the work of the doctors and nurses, and the careful medical attention and nursing, is lost because of this fact.Cintra was the home of th 6 late Sir Arthur Myers, who, during his life among us, did so much good for the city. The purchase of this property would be most fitting.. He loved his home and spent many happy days there. It would in some way link his name with the Convalescent. Home. I understand that the price at which tlie property hasbeen offered is about £17,000. If this figura is correct it is what the ordinary business terms would* call a gift. It is to be sincerely hoped that others among your readers will support the purchase of Cintra for a convalescent home. A. J. Hutchinson..
