Charges of negligently driving an unlighted motor-car on the night of October 4, 1928. and of failing to render assistance when his car struck a motor-cyclist, were preferred against Gordon Albert Manning in tho Te Aroha Magistrate's Court before Mr, F. W. Platts, S.M. The collision occurred at the junction of Stanley Road and the concrete road, The defendant, who was represented by Mr. Gilchrist, pleaded guilty to the first two charges, but not guilty to tho third, contending that he did not know at the time that he had struck anyone. Counsel stated that on the night in question Manning was proceeding from Manawaru to To Aroha when the lights failed. As it was a moonlight night he decided to take the risk and proceed to have the lights attended to. "When ho struck tho motor-cycle ho mistook tho slight impact for an irregularity in the road.

Mr. McGregor, who appeared for the injured cyclist, H. K. Anderson, said that his client was still in the Hamilton Hospital as tho result of injuries received, and would be likely- to be there for some time. ,

A fine of £SO was imposed, to bo paid to the injured person, and defendant's licence was cancelled for 12 months.
