ROBBERY FROM WOMAN.
ACCUSED ADMITS OFFENCE. BLdW STRUCK WITH ' TORCH. [BY TELEGRAPH.—OWN CORRESPONDENT. ] HAMILTON, Friday. An admission that he had robbed Mrs. May Palmer, a widow, of Hamilton, of £1 13s 5d and a number of certificates, and that he used violence toward her was made by Percival Charles Yates, aged 25, a labourer, in the Hamilton Magistrate's Court to-day. He was committed to the Supreme Court at Auckland for sentence.
The complainant said that on Wednesday, June 12, she went for a walk with accused to the lake. Ho asked her for 2s and she refused his request. He then struck her in the face with a torch, and when she produced her purse he snatched it from her. He again struck her on the face and ran away. Detective White said accused had admitted the offence when he was arrested.
Accused also pleaded guilty to stealing a bag of coal valued at 2s at Frankton. Detective White said accused had been convicted of theft three times previously. He was sentenced to one month's imprisonment.
