WHITSUNDAY SERVICES.
SPECIAL ADDRESSES GIVEN. A number of churches in the city and suburbs held special Whitsunday services yesterday, while in Anglican churches the collections were devoted to the Melanesian Mission Fund. The principal Church of England service was held in the evening at All Saints', Ponsonby, where the Bishop of Melanesia, the Rev. F. M. Molyneux, was the preacher. He also' celebrated Holy Communion at the Church of the Holy Sepulchre in the morning.
Special addresses dealing with Pentecost were given in a number of Presbyterian churches, the main services being at St.'* James,' where the sermon Was given by the Rev. E. R. Harries, and at Knox Church, where the Rev. A. Macdonald Aspland preached on Pentecost. Solemn high mass was celebrated at St. Patrick's Cathedral intta# morning, the apostolic delegate to Australia and .New Zealand, the Most Rev. Dr, Cattaneo, presiding, while the sermon was preached by the Very Rev. B. J. Ryan*. Yesterday was observed by the Salvation Army as Mothers' Day, three services being held in the Congress Hall, where addresses were given by Adjutant and Mrs. Goffin. Other Mothers' Day services wore held in the army hall in Ponsortby. Road, where addresses were givon by Adjutant and Mrs. Briddock.
