ELIMINATION OF CANADA. WIN FOR UNITED STATES. Australian Press Association—United Service (Received May 19, 5.5 p.m.) MONTREAL. May 18. The Americans won the complete rubber against; Canada in the Davis Cup contest. In the doubles yesterday Hennessey and Van Ryn defeated Wright and Arthur Ha mm, 6—l, 6—o, I—6,1 —6, 6 —2. In the last singles to-day Van Ryn defeated Wright, 6—l, 6—o, 6—l; and Allison defeated Crocker, 2—6, 6—4, 10-8, 4—6, 6—2.
SWEDEN MEETS DEFEAT. VICTORY FOR SOUTH AFRICA. Australian Press Association—United Service (Received May 19, 6.25 p.m.) LONDON, May 18. South Africa defeated Sweden in the second round of the Davis Cup contest and qualified for the third round against Britain.
ITALY DEFEATS IRELAND. WILL NEXT MEET GERMANY. Australian Press Association—United Service LONDON, May 17. Italy defeated Ireland in the Davis Cup contest and qualified for the third round. The Italians will next meet Germany.
