[dv telegraph.—own correspondent.] OAMARU, Saturday. TLio fields were large at the Oaraaru meeting to-day, there being 165 starters v for eight races. King Oscar, tho winner of the Innovation Handicap, made an exhibition of his opponents. as ho quickly established a long lead and won pulling up. Ho is a five-year-old gelding who has not done much racing, and is likely to improve. Ambition, who filled second place, is a brilliant young trotter, who may take lfisli rank before she finishes racing. The Advance Handicap provided an exciting finish. Imperial Logan looked a winner a furlong from the post, but Myra Locanda snatched a victory in tho last stride. She is a five-year-old mare by Brent'Locanda, and a very attractive pacer. Sho stayed on belter than Imperial Logan, who has a fine turn of speed. Monopole. a four-year-old brother to Cardinal Logan, was close up third after a good performance. Nell do Beau paced a fine race, and was just beaten into fourth place. The much-boomed two-two-old Grand Canyon was in the field, but ho did not Jast well. With experience, however-, he will be a good hor,so. Tho President's Handicap vvns an interesting race for a mile and a-half, but after that Wracldcr drew out and never looked like being beaten. Liiikman gained second place through outstaying Evelyn Locanda, while Jolly Chimes and Dundns Boy finished well at Hie head of the others. Wrackler won very easily after being well handled by M Holmes. Ho is a high-class three-year-old. and deserved his win. Linkman is still improving and will be in cup class sooi|. Return Voyage was a hot favourite for the Papakaio Handicap, and won easily. Ho was ridden a patient race, and outstayed Imperial Thorpe, who beat Imperial Logau comfortably for second place.

Tho winner is an exceptionally brilliant gelding. He is not a good stayer, but will take high rank as a sprinter. Dipnoi, tho winner of the Waikaina Handicap, was one •of tho outsiders of tho field. For galloping in the later stages his rider was fined £5, the stewards considering that lie did not pull the horse back to his gait quickly enough Dipnoi was in front nearly half a mi!o from homo and won easily. Tot Logan, who filled 'second place, was always prominent. Admiv.il Bingen was a hot favourite. He lost a lot of ground through failing to go off right, but made up his leeway in great stylo The effort left him without any reserve, and ho faded out again in the last halfmile. Dihvorth was backed as a good thing in the Enfield Handicap. Sho was well placed all through and looked u certain winner when tho straight was reached, as sho was in front with Marinca, whoao measuro she ha.d all tho time. Evelyn Locanda then appeared and J. Bryco drove her home vigorously to beat the favourite in the last couplo of strides. Tho winner deserved her success, as sho has been racing consistently for seme time. Dilworth's performance was that of a good three-year-old. "Editor and Wild Nita were in front all tho way in the Stewards' Handicap, but they had a big band just behind Ihom. Wild Nita snatched a victory only in the last strido. She is speedy but a mile and „,a-half seems to be her limit. Sunbell finished fast to get third money. Sir Author, tho favourite, never looked dangerous, the two-year-old Ngingo Ngingo, and Monopolo and Asset wcro going well until tho last furlong, when they faded out. Tho Electric Handicap saw Imperial Thorpe made a hot favourite. He was in front early and had a good lead at the entrance to the straight. He tired in the run home alid Logan Hanlon just headed him on tho post. Logan Hanlon is a smart sprinter. HAWKE'S BAY CLUB. DECLARATION OF HANDICAPS.
