TALKIES IN ENGLAND.
NEW SOUND FILMS. DISC RECORDING METHOD.
(Received May 16, 5.55 p.m.) British Wireless. RUGBY. May 15. Exceptional interest is being taken in Britain in the development of talkie films. Importance is attached to a new British system of disc recording invented by Mr. William Jeapes. Ho has been expel imenting for more than 20 years with sound films. By moans of his invention it is claimed that a cinema can be equipped for sound films at one-fifteenth the cost of any foreign system. The new method, which also eliminates the need for expensive sound-proof studios, was successfully demonstrated yestordav with a talkie film scene fiom " Journey's End," a much-discussed war play. ___________
