TO-DAY'S WEATHER.

HERALD'S SPECIAL FORECAST.

The following weather forecast for 24 hours from 7 a.m. to-day was supplied to us by Mr. 11. M. Vincent last evening:— Further unsettled weather is indicated, with additional rain, but a temporary improvement is expected to follow shortly, and flood waters should commence to subsido to-day in East Coast districts. There is a prospect of fine weather, prevailing in most districts, including the flooded area, during Saturday. Southerly to south-easterly winds, moderate to strong, reaching gnle force occasionally, decreasing, and .veering to west. Heavy seas in Cook Strait, and on the East Coast, gradually moderating; moderate seas on tho West Coast. The great disturbance is now moving away from the Dominion, and is passing southeastward. A new depression is developing on the central Tasman Sea, and is likely to affect New Zealand about Sunday. Cold temperatures. Barometer, midnight, rising .. 20.85 in. Midnight, Wednesday . . 29.25 in. GOVERNMENT REPORT. The Government meteorologist reported last evening as follows: —The cyclone is moving away eastwards. Pressure is high between southern New Zealand and Tasmania, but there are indications of the development of a new cyclone off the New South Wales coast. Indications are for moderate to strong and squally south-east to south-west winds, still of galo force in places, more especially about Cook Strait and on tho cast coast of the North Island, but later decreasing gradually. Seas moderate on the west coast of the South Island and south of Akaroa, elsewhere rough to heavy. Strong southerly winds, later backing to easterly, with rough seas in the eastern Tasman Sea. Weather still generally unsettled, with rain in most districts, but mainly fair in Wcstland and Otago, thick on the east coast between East Capo and Kaikoura, with cold temperatures. RAINFALL RECORD.
