BRITISH AVIATION.
GROWING COMMUNICATION. LESSONS OF INDIA SERVICE. British Wireless. BUG BY, May 13. The important extensions of the transcontinental air services to be made this summer will amplify and accelerate London's aerial .communications with foreign capitals. Working in conjunction with the air lines of Europe the British air chiefs will concentrate this year upon the development of night flying operations and upon spreading yet further afield the long-distance network from Croydon. That London air station is now one of the world's most elaborately equipped terminal aerodromes Air liners will ply from Croydon this summer to every capital in Europe. In the preparation of plans for the great mail lines much valuable knowledge has been gained from the first weeks of the operation of the longest airway in tho world, namely, the 5000-mile route flown weekly by air liners of Imperial Airways, Limited, between London and India. That service is attracting greatlyincreased business each week. On Saturday the weekly air mail from London to India reached the record figure of more than 16,000 letters. The air mail from India consisted of 20,000 letters. It left Karachi on the previous Sunday and arrived at Croydon yesterday. Although bad weather conditions were experienced on the last 500 miles the mail was only 15 minutes late. Within the last fortnight the amount of air-borne outgoing Indian mail has been nearly doubled as a reward for consistent regularity. With one exception, when it was three hours late in covering tho 5000 miles, the Indian air mail lias arrived at its destination a few minutes before or after the scheduled time.
