SUPREMACY IN TENNIS.
battle for world title. The visit to Europe and Wimbledon of the leading American tennis players to try and regain the world's supremacy which was wrested from them two years ago by the Frenchmen, is creating worldwide interest among tennis enthusiasts. Tilden will lead tho invasion, and he is likely to meet Lacoste and Cochet on more than one occasion. The question is whether a man of 37 years—which is Tilden's age can do this year what he just failed to do iast yeai when he was defeated at Wimbledon by Lacoste, 2—6, 6—4, 2—6, 64,6 3. In the Davis Cup challenge round, lilden defeated Lacoste in a five-set contest, but lost to Cochet. This year he may well find that some of his lasting power has deserted him. Last season he headed the American ranking list and was inferior only to Cochet and Lacoste on the world's list. Will he maintain that high position this year, or will younger players push him further down the ladder of lennis fame ? Whatever the outcome of the tennis battle of 1929 may be, it is certain there is a wonderfully interesting tournament season ahead.
