COUNCIL OF WOMEN.
CONFERENCE AT GISBORNE
[BY TELEGRAPH. —PRESS ASSOCIATION.] GISBORNE, Monday.
The Dominion Conference of tho National Council of Women opened this afternoon. Delegates were in attendance from Auckland, Harhilton, Wellington, Christchurch and Dunedin, but tho president, Mrs. C. A. Fraer, was unavoidably
detained. She has been elected a member of the Christchurch City Council, and her presence was necessary at a meeting thero this evening. She will endeavour to reach Gisborne before the conference ends.
The Mayor, Mr. D. W. Coleman, in welcoming tho delegates, said ho appreciated tho valuo of tho women's movement, and he was pleased tho council had remained a non-party ono politically. Miss B. E. Carnachan, of Auckland, roplied on behalf of the North Island, .and, Miss Jamieson, Christchurch, on behalf of tho South Island. The delegates were also welcomed by Mrs. H. J- Walker, the president of tho local branch.
