ENGLISH BOYS FOR FARMS.
THE TARANAK! SCHEME.
CO-OPERATION WELCOMED.
[BY TELEGRAPH.—OWN CORRESPONDENT. ] NEW PLYMOUTH.. Thursday. Commenting upon a' telegram sent to the Prime Minister, Sir Joseph Ward, by Mr. J. S. Fletcher, M.P. for Grey Lynn, regarding the Taranaki Chamber of Commerce immigration scheme for English public school' boys, Mr. C, Carter, chairman of the chamber's immigration committee, stated to-day that the chamber would welcome the co-operation of Mr. Fletcher in providing boys suitable for work on farms in Taranaki.
English school boys came out under engagement to selected farms, and for the first year were paid a salary agreed upon between the Chamber of Commerce and the farmer concerned. During the two years that the immigration schema had been suspended, the farmers in Taranaki had not been able to secure either colonial or English boys for their farms, and the chamber had had repeated requests for assistance.
