NEW RECREATION GROUND.

EPSOM AREA IN USE TO-DAY.

MAYOR AT FOOTBALL MATCH,

Several months ago gangs of unemployed men were engaged by the Auckland City Council to perform the task of transforming into a playing-field three and a-half acres of rocky land in Pencarrow Avenue, Epsom, held by the council as a reserve. To-day* goalposts will be erected on the grounds and this afternoon the Mayor, Mr. G. Baildon, will "kick off" at the first school football match to be played there this season. Work in accomplishing the transformation included removing large boulders, filling in hollows, levelling and sowing grass. In all the sum of £3700 was spent on the area, which is now an asset to the district. It affords a fine playingfield for all children in the vicinity and will be used every Friday for school matches.
