LAND SETTLEMENT.

Sir, —Your correspondent "Sixty-three Years in New Zealand," points out that settlement of the laud is the only real cure for unemployment in this country, but instead, as he states, there being 7.000,000 acres of land idle, there are 44,000,000 acres. For years past there has heen no appreciable addition to (he 19,000,000 acres occupied and utilised and to that- fact may be traced much of the dislocation caused by inflated land values. We need more people on the iand as quickly as ever we can get them there, and our efforts should not only he restricted to New Zealand. Tf our native born d<» not fancy the country life, which I, personally, do not believe, then we should get settlers from overseas. Settlement and migration should go together. N. G. Guibble.
