TRESPASS ON RESERVE.

CULTIVATION OF GROUND.

MAORI FINED TEN POUNDS. [By TELEGRAPH. —OWN correspondent.] NGARUAWAHIA, Thursday. A charge, of trespassing on a reserve at Ngaruawahia and refusing to leave, was preferred against Nikau Putere and Paru Wakctre in the Magistrate's Court to-day before-Mr. Wyvern Wilson, S.M. Putere appeared in Court, but Wakare was absent. Both pleaded not guilty.

It was stated in evidence that defendants had squatted on the ground and begun cultivating it. On three occasions they had been warned to leave, and had refused.

Putere commenced to make a speech about alleged wrongs to the Maoris, but he was checked, and fined £lO and costs, in default three months' imprisonment. Wakare was ordered to pay costs.
