WEDDING.
PURCHAS-WILLIAMS. A quiet, wedding took place at Christ Church, Ellerslie, on Wednesday afternoon, when Miss Esmo Purchas, only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Claude Purchas, nf Lynton, Penrose, was married to Mr. Philip Williams, eldest son of the Rev. Canon Arthur and Mrs. Williams, of Te Ante, Hawke's Bay. The service, which was fully choral, was performed by the IJev. Canon Arthur Williams, father of tho bridegroom, assisted by the Rev. R. J. Stanton, vicar of the parish, and the Rev. C. B. Seton. The picturesque little church, with its beautiful stain-glass win dows, was charmingly decorated by girl friends of the bride in autumn-shaded chrysanthemums and formed an artistic setting to the bridal party. The bride, who was given aivay by her father, wore a graceful ankle-length frock pf parchment coloured chenille georgette, simply made on classical lines. Her veil of deep cream tulle, finished with heavy tassels, which toned with the frock, was worn over a juliet cap of lace and she carried a bouquet of cream and autumn-shaded roses. Little Barbara Wilkic and Teddy Eliott followed her up the aisle, the former wearing a frock of corn-coloured georgette with frilled skirt, and a velvet sash of a deeper shade. A felt hat to tone, turned back from the face and finished with a buckle was also worn, and she carried a posy of autumn tinted roses. The two bridesmaids were Miss Constance Martin and Miss Kathleen Marshall, who were dressed alike in ankle-length frocks of corncoloured georgette, made with the uneven hem-line and finished with velvet o a deeper shade. Their large felt. in -s----which toned with their frocks. , turned back from the face a:nd fin: with a buckle. They carried bounds of autumn-tinted roses. J" - was attended by Mr El,of Cutte best man. Owing to the recent illness of the bride's mother, the reception was held at (he residence of Mi . and Mis. Herbert Marshall, of Penrose Hill, at, which only relatives and a few intimate friends were present. The bride's mother wore a frock of black georgette with a black felt hat and grev squirrel fur. She carried a bouquet of red roses. The bridegroom's mother, Mrs. A. Williams, was in a frock of grey crepe do chine, grey furs and black hat. She carried a bouquet of shaded roses. '
