SURPRISE PARTY
A very cheery little surprise party took place on Tuesday evening; when some of the friends of Miss Yvonne Bryant took a surprise party to her home at Te Rapa to bid farewell to her before her departure for Sydney after her approaching marriage. " 5
Ihe evening was spent in amusiiig games. A book was given to Miss Bryant bv those present as a small token of remembrance and affection. Miss Bryant, was wearing a frock of black panne velvet, with touches of jade. Among those present were: Mrs. D. Bryant, Miss C. Bryant, Miss L. Bryant,, Mrs. Bowater, Miss Angland, Mrs. Pearson, Mrs. Dingle, Miss A. Barrett'. Miss M, McKenzie, Miss B. Higgott, Miss R. Vickery, Miss B. Vickery, Miss L. Gifford, Miss E. Gifford, Miss P. Higgott, Miss 0. Cole, Miss N. Hayes, Miss M. Street, Miss 15. Minchin, Miss L. Street. Bridge Evening.
A very successful bridge party was held at Mrs. H. Valder's residence, Edingihorpe, River Road, in aid of the No. 1 Company of Girl Guides, on Wednesday evening. It'was given by tho committee of the Girl Guides ' first company, and there was a large number of players present. Mrs. Valder received the guests in a frock of burgundy panne velvet. She was assisted by Miss Norah Valder, who wore ciel blue crepe de chine and silver lace and a bridge coat of the same shade; Miss Lilian Valder was in cyclamen ring velvet embroidered in rose and silver; Miss A. Moore, geranium red ring velvet. Among the guests were: Mrs. Quick, Mrs. G. Hurdwood, Mrs. A. H. Tompkins, Mrs. Valder (sen.). Mrs. Shaw, Mrs. Davi r son, Mrs. A. Ramsay, Mrs. F. Vickery, Mrs. F. B. Jolly, Mrs. Jackson, Mrs. W. McNicol, Mrs. Forster, Mrs. J. McNicol, Mrs. A. Matthews, Mrs. Short, Miss Drake, Miss Irwin, Miss H. Rennie (Taupiri), Miss B. Manning, Miss E. Necker, Miss D. Clark, Miss H. Hevwood, Miss F. Jolly, Miss M. Young, Miss N. Jackson, Miss K Tompkins, "Miss V. Watts, Miss R. Vickery,. Miss B. Vickery, Miss M. Stevens, Miss F. Hall, Miss G. Hammond. Miss E. Guy, Miss Forster, Miss D. Wilson, Miss Hagan, Miss K. Wilson, Miss N. Taylor, Miss E. Ward, Miss Scherer (2). Miss Davison. The prizes were won bv Miss B. Manning and Dean Barnctt with the highest scores. Personal. Mrs. G. R. Barnett is visiting Auckland. Miss S. Morphett has gone to Rotorua for the vacation. Miss M. Young is visiting her home in Auckland, Miss Seal is spending a holiday in Nelson.
