LORD JELLICOE AS A " STAR."
THE WAR AGAINST SLUMS. [from our own correspondent.] LONDON, March 19. A film in which the " stars" were Earl Jellicoe and the Bishop of London was shown in the Church of St. Mary's, Seymour Street, Euston. The film was made by the St. Pancras House Improvement Society. Scenes of dilapidated houses were shown, and then the laying of the foundation stone of fine new flats. Earl Jellicoe and the Bishop of London were seen at the ceremony.
In a speech, Earl Jellicoe's cousin, the Rev. Basil Jellicoe, said the society had just purchased a block of about 60 houses in the vicinity, which were shortly to be converted into flats. He said that certain people objected to their work, on the grounds that those who had lived all their lives in slums would soon reduce their new flats to the same level. He appealed to them to prove that this was untrue.
