RUGBY FOOTBALL.

PRIMARY SCHOOLS' UNION. The annual meeting of the Auckland Primary Schools' Rugby Union was attended by delegates from 40 schools. The annual report disclosed another successful Reason. The union's credit balance, however, was seriously depleted during 1928, the chief item in this respect being the heavy expenses incurred by representative teams travelling to and from Auckland at the end. of tho season. However, the union considers this money well spent and looks forward to another busy and successful year. The election of officers resulted as follows: —President, Mr. Hook; vice-presidents, Messrs. The Otago Rugby Union has decided to support the Cantevbury Union's remits that the New Zealand Union negotiate with New South Wales Union regarding the agreement entered into in connection with the interchange of visits, with a view to modifying the agreement by reducing the frequency of visits, and that the visit of the New Zealand team to Australia this season be put back one month. One speaker said the New Zealand management committee was going a little too far. and was making club football subsidiary to its star attractions. Other speakers objected to the management committee entering into an agreement without consulting the various unions. PUTTING THE BALL IN SCRUMS. [BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] DUNEDIN. Tuesday. The question of who should put the ball into the scrum was discussed at a meeting of tho Otago Rugby Union last evening. In reply to a circular letter from the committee, ' a number of the clubs wrote stating that they were in favour of the referee putting the ball in the scrum. Mr. A. J. Haub said Auckland had adopted this practice for some years. It was decided to write to the New Zealand Union asking if it would give the Otago Union permission to have the ball placed in the scrum by the referees in this district.
