INJURY TO MINER.
PAYMENT OF COMPENSATION. COURT REFUSES MORE. A claim for compensation by Herbert I vers,- coalmincr, (Mr. O'Regan) against the Hikurangi Coal Company (Mr. West) was heard in the Arbitration' Court yesterdav. While working in the liikurangi mine in December, 1927, Ivers was strucii by an iron bar and injured. He had had to undergo a serious operation, and it was claimed that lie was still totally disabled. He asked for compensation at the rate of £3 2s lid weekly.
Mr. O'Regan said the only question in dispute-was the quantum of compensation. The company bact paid compensation until some weeks after the operation last March. . . , Dr. Bull expressed the opinion tnau Jvers was already fit for light work, but that he should not take up heavy work for another two months. The view of Dr. F. Macky was that Ivers should go back to heavy work immediately. ' Mr. West said the whole thing was a waste of time. He submitted that the payments already made up until .March 21 constituted full compensation. Mr. Justice Frazer said it could not be said that the claimant had been unfairly <Wt with, and the Court could not say that he was entitled to any further compensation. Judgment would be for the sum of £lO4 already paid. It seemed unfortunate that Ivers had waited three months before having the operation.
