MOUNT EDEN FINANCE.

Sir,—l must challenge tho remarks of Mr. Potter, Mayor of Mount Eden, that tho statements made at a public meeting were based upon a "supposititious statement." I waited on the town clerk and was courteously given the figures quoted, viz.; General account debit, £12,335; water account debit, £4797; uncollected rates, approximately £14,000. Other figures were not available, but these amounts were definite. I specifically asked was there anything to affect the two statements of debit balances, and was assured there was not. In my addresses I have only used official figures quoted in the 1927-28 balance-sheet, or figures given as above by the town clerk. 6 W. H. Nagle.
