STANDARDISED CHEESE.

NO EFFECT ON PRICES.

REPLY TO CATTLE BREEDERS

I'BV TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] WELLINGTON, Tuesday. ' A' statement was recently circulated throughout. New Zealand that the executive of. the Ayrshire Breeders,' Society had passed a resolution urging the abandonment of the practice of making standardised cheoso, on the ground that it was responsible for the recent disparity in the price of Canadian and New Zealand cheese. This statement was mentioned in tho course of-a discussion on the subject at to-day's meeting of the Dairy Board, when its accuracy was challenged. It was stated that, as a matter of actual fact, at the time the statement was made not a single crate of standardiiied cheese had arrived on the London market, so that it could not in any way be responsible for the disparity in price between New Zealand and Canadian cheese.

The first shipments of standardised cheese had arrived on the London market within the past few days and cabled information from trade agents was' io the effect that the quality of the shipments had been quite satisfactory. First Bales had yet to be made, but it was desired that prompt' correction should be made of the statement attributing to standardised cheese the price disparity between the Canadian and New Zealand product.
