A NEW MOVEMENT.
PHYSICAL DEVELOPMENT. A new movement, which it is hoped will bulk largely in. the activities of the business girls and young women of the city, the Auckland Society of Artistic Physical Development, had its inception in the Lewis Eady Hall last evening, Madame Baird, whd has been engaged by the society as its organiser and instructress, was introduced by the chairman, Mr. L. S. Eady. A most enjoyable programme followed, ;in which was demonstrated model syste-na of artistic physical development and movement in rhythmical exercises. Theso wire explained progressively by Madame Baird and performed by a class of young women. Grecian exercises, most graceful and attractive, were succeeded by a set of exercises in operatic dancing, after which examples of pastoral dancing showed the possibilities of open-air training. The demonstration closed with a short series of classic solo and group dances by members in costume. The programme as a whole expressed types of physical culture and dancing training altogether new to this country and it is to be hoped that the movement will bo enthusiastically taken up by our younger generation.
