PRESENTATIONS.

The members or the Tauranga Borough Council and of the staff assapibled on Monday evening in the town clerk's office, and presented to Mr. B. Dive, who is retiring after ten years as mayor, & handsome oak cabinet containing a set of pipes, and a silver sovereign case. Appreciative reference was made to Mr. Dive's services as Mayor. A farewell was tendered to Miss G. H. Lewis, a member of the staff of thef Maungawliau school, 011 Monday, on tho occasion of her leaving tho school to* take up a position under the Taranaki Education Board. The headmaster, Mr. C. Wilson, in presenting a travelling rug to Miss Lewis on behalf of the staff, spoke of the high esteem in which she was held and voiced tho : regret of teachers and children at her departure. Mr. K. 11. Flicker, who has been an assistant master in Opotiki High School for over two years, was farewelled yesterday by staff and scholars. Mr. Burton, the headmaster, expressed regret at tho loss of Mr. Fricker, who had always commanded the respect of the children and staff. Mr. Fricker was presented with a ; suitcase from the scholars and a leather wallet from the staff. He leaves this morning for Whangarei to tako up a position at tho Whangarei Junior High School. About S!00 residents of Pokeno and the surrounding districts assembled in the Pokeno Valley Hall on Monday evening at a valedictory social tendered to Mr. and Mrs, W. 11. Kent, who are leaving Pokeno to-day, Mr.. Kent having been appointed postmaster at New Lynn after four years as postmaster at Pokeno. Mr. C. J. Leathern presided, and 011 behalf of the residents of the district (presented a gold watch to Mr. ''Kent and a salad bowl to Mrs. Kent Messrs. Leathern, A.Gimmer and T.
