VISITS TO COALMINES.
INSPECTION BY MINISTER.
UNDERGROUND WORKINGS SEEN. [BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT. ] nUNTLY, Monday.
A visit to the coalmines in the Huntly district was paid by the Minister of Mines, Hon. W. A. Veitch, to-day. The Minister will visit the Waipa Collieries mine at Ngaruawahia to-morrow, and will then proceed to the Waihi and Thames districts.
Arriving at Iluntly by car in the morning, the Minister went to Rotowaro. He ■was accompanied by Mr. A. 11. Kemball, Under-Secretary for Mines, Mr. W. Leo Martin, M.P. for Raglan, Mr. \V. Barclay, district inspector of mines, and Mr. W. C. E. George, chairman of the Iluntly Town Board.
After inspecting the bins and screening station of tho ltenown Collieries mine, the party proceeded to the McDonald State coal area, which has not yet been worked. The paity went underground at tho Taupiri Coal Company's mine at Rotowaro, where tho Minister was greatly impressed with the working of the electric coal-cut-ting machine. Owing to the condition of the road the party was forced to walk along the railway line from Rotowaro to reach the New Zealand Co-operative Dairy Company's mine at Glen Afton. Tho Minister then visited the Pukemiro Company's mine at Pukemiro.
