INDUSTRIES DISLOCATED.

COALMINING DISPUTE.

MEN REJECT PROPOSALS.

ORDERS FOR NEW ZEALAND.

(Received April 29, 8.25 p.m.) SYDNEY. April 29

The New South Wales Treasurer, Mr. B. S. B. Stevens, forwarded to the Miners' Federation modified proposals by the Government for an immediate resumption of work in the mines. These are that a Royal Commission shall be appointed to make an investigation of the industry and to complete its report within three months; and one shilling a week reduction in wages. The members of the combined unions of the mining industry at a meeting held this afternoon rejected Mr. Steven's proposals. They formulated counter-proposals, one of which is:

"The mines shall be reopened on a predispute basis and the Royal Commission to inquire into the industry shall make an award on the figures before it, to which the miners agree to be bound." Mr. McDonald, president of the Northern Colliery Owners' Association, addressed 3000 miners at Kurri Kurri yesterday. He was given an attentive hearing and stated the case for the owners. He told of the dwindling trade. At tho conclusion of the address the miners cheered.

As a result of the sfoppage in the industry consumers in New South Wales and Victoria arc ordering supplies from New Zealand and England. A second shipment from New Zealand arrived at Melbourne by tho Kaitoke yesterday.
