THE NORTHERN ASSOCIATION.
SOUhJD FINANCIAL POSITION.
The annual meeting of the Northern Boxing Association was held last evening, tho president, Mr. E. A. Craig, presiding over a large attendance of members. Tho annual report and balance-sheet were adopted. Tho balance-sheet showed that income from nil sources totalled JCSCO4 15s Cd, against £2300 13s lid for tho previous year. A profit of over £5lO was shown. Thirteen carnivals were staged, including the New Zealand championship tourney and the local amateur tourney, which gave a total of 15 nights of boxing for (ho year. Tho Auckland amateur championships attracted over 50 entries. Tho following were tho winners in their respective classes:— Heavy-weight, P. E. McCarthny; light lieu vy-wcicht, P. E McCarthny; middleweight. W. Pitcher; welter-weight, J. G. Forsyth; lijjhl-weifsbt, A. Jo vies; featherweight, .1. Leslie; bantam-weight, E. Davis; fly-weight, P. E. Pearcey. Tho New Zealand championship fixture was held in Auckland, and attracted record entries from the various centres. 'J lie standard of boxing shown, on tho whole, was fairly satisfactory. . . The matter of broadcasting descriptions of contests was discussed, and a recommendation was made to tho incoming committee to grunt permission for broadcasting so long as attendances were not adversely affected. ; It was decided the erection of a portanlo ring bo proceeded with in order that, the present ringside accommodation at the Town Hall bo increased by 180. sea ts, giving total stage accommodation for over 400 persons. Mr. Craig paid a tribute to the work of tho secretary, Mr. J. H. Watts, and the treasurer, Mr. E Dean, who had carried out their duties thoroughly.
