COST OF SCHOOL BOOKS.
Sir,—An article appeared in Wednesday's Herald with reference to the cost of school books, and a resolution, carried at the meeting of householders in the Sydenham school, Christcburch. A similar resolution was carried unanimously at the Mount Albert householders' meet ing. Jt was:—That the Minister of Education be requested to consider tho introduction of legislation at the next session of Parliament, to make provision for school books and stationery to bo provided by the Government, and failing this, wo ask that the Minister make provision for books, etc., to be provided free of charge to children whoso parents through unemployment or other causes, cannot afford them. The same reasons as stated at the Christcburch meetings wore given, that tho cost to parents today for school books as a result of the introduction of the new syllabus was far beyond what they can afford.
