PORT OF AUCKLAND.
MR. E. ALLAN'S CAMPAIGN. Mr. Ebenezer Allan, candidate for the Auckland' Harbour Board, addressed a fairly large gathering of electors at. Otahuhu last evening. Mr. R. B. Todd, Mayor of Otahuhu, presided. Mr. Allan said he was of opinion that the Harbour Board should interest itself in the construction of a bridge across the Waitemata Harbour. He considered the bridge would open up land at present sparsely populated, and so lead to a settlement of a proportion of Auckland's present surplus population. - The scheme should either be financed by the issue of Harbour Board debentures or by the formation of a special company to issue £l. "hares, which would be disposed of by ballot.
rhe candidate said ho was in favour of reduced wharfage charges on imports at ■Auckland, in view of the fact that considerable opposition could shortly bo expected from transtasman air traffic. In reply to a question Mr. Allan said he favoured the construction of a bridge across the Tamaki Itiver from the Otahnhu side to East Tamaki. A vote of thanks, moved by ]\fr. G. W. ■ > enables and seconded by Mr. 0. Nutter, *tas carried amid applause.
