PROVISION IN THE CITY.

BEDS AND MEALS FOR MEN. A new shelter for homeless men, established by the Auckland City Mission, will be opened in Federal Street, city, on Thursday evening. It is planned to provide a light supper for the men when the shelter opens at eight o'clock each evening, and a good breakfast each morning. The shelter will bo vacated by the men before eight o'clock in the mornings, when a staff will change the sheets on the beds, fumigate the blankets and scrub the floors. Every effort is being made to ensure perfect cleanliness. Members of the City Mission men's guild were busy last evening making tables, forms, and benches for the dining room, -which occupies about half of the upper storey, and about 100 btds will be placed in the dormitories to-morrow. The shelter, which will bo under the supervision of a reliable mission officer, should be well patronised during the coming winter months.

"People living in the immediate neighbourhood may be assured that no rowdyism will occur," said the Rev. Jasper Calder. "It is my experience that a gooil class of man frequents such establish] ments." The city missioner added that) the quality of the accommodation anil especially of the meals depended entirely, on the generosity of the public, and lie hoped that funds would be forthcoming to enable the shelter ty> be kept open during the whole of thegwintcr.
