SIR ALAN BURGOYNE.

Australian Press Association—United Service (Received April 28, 5.5 p.m.) LONDON, April 27. The death is announced of Sir Alan Burgoyne, Conservative member of the House of Commons for tho Aylesbury Division of Buckinghamshire, aged 48. Sir Alan Burgoyno was born in 1880, and educated at Kilby College, Tavistock, and Oxford. 110 was a director of various companies, had had considerable property in Australia, and was a director of P. I'. Burgovne and Co., wine, merchants. lie had "travelled extensively. In 1903 lie was at Port Arthur and was arrested by the Russians as a spy and imprisoned for a time, lie served in the war in France, Italy and India, arid was made a lieutenant-colonel, 110 sat for tho Noith Kensington Division in the House ol Commons from 1910 to 1922, when ho was knighted, and was elected for Aylesbury at tlio general election in 1924, with a majority o r 6558 over his Liberal opponent,, Mr. T. Keens. lie was author of " Submarine Navigation," >" Tho War Inevitable" (1908). "What of the Navy If" (1913), and founded tlio Navy League Annual, 1907.
