BUTTER IN LONDON.
COMPETITION FROM DENMARK PAST MONTH REVIEWED. [BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] HAMILTON, Sunday. Amalgamated Dairies, Ltd., lias issued a report to suppliers of the New Zealand Co-operative Dairy Company, Ltd., stating that during the past month prices on tho London butter market have been held up in face of heavy arrivals from New Zealand and Australia. A very large Danish surplus was also thrown on to the markets. On account of the fact that Danish butter is manufactured to sell quickly and rapidly loses its bloom if stored rapid clearance necessary. This had the natural effect of lowering prices. The Danish retail price went down to Is Bd, tho same as New Zealand butter. At that price the butter was evidently gome into consumption quickly, as indicated by the stocks in public stores. Under tho pressure of Danish prices the market for New Zealand sagged at tho beginning of the month, some selling down to 160s, but this low figure quickly brought about a reaction, and the price rose to 168s. At this rato the demand was slow. Notwithstanding the heavy disposals of Danish tho average weekly sales of New Zealand had increased by 100 tons on flic previous period.
