THE DRAINAGE OF LAND. ROAD METALLING WORK. [BY TELEGBAPH-—OWN COKBESPOKDEVT.I X GATE A, Saturday. Following on the request, of a deputation of Hopni settlers, the Hauraki West Drainage Board has decided to seek the opinion of settlers of its area on the installation of an electrical pumping scheme to assist gravity drainage in the Hopai East district. In the event of the settlers concerned raising the cost of the pumps, a rate of |d in the pound will be needed to cover the maintenance cost s. At a meeting of the Hauraki United Drainage Board it was decided to call tenders for the completion of Bagnall's outlet drain. The work will be let in three sections. Seven tenders were received for improving the Miller-Hamil-ton drain for 73 chains, and that of Mr. Radich. at £220. was accepted. Patetonga residents will have a metalled road nil the way to Morrinsville by the end of this week if the present progress is maintained. Last evening only" gaps tot alling about 100 yards remained to be completed in the section between the township and the gia\el near the Maukoro landing road. The Minister of Lands. Hon. G. W. Forbes, has postponed his tour of the Hauraki Plains until the second week in May.
