Nineteen started in the brankton Hurdlcß and Vivo was a slightly better favourite than Highflown. The event provided a surprise, two outsiders in "Wiltsliiro and Star Comet filling the dividend places and making their supporters substantial re turns. Ned Kelly led ovei the first fence and, made play past the stand from Ripon Abbey, Bracken Abbey. Star Comet, Cybele and Recent- Along the back Ned Kelly was still forcing the pace with Ripon Abbey Star Comet. Cybele TTralla, Bracken Abbey, Wiltshire and Vivo his closest attendants in a strung-out field. Running across the top Ripon Abbey took charge, while Star Comet and Wiltshire also moved up. Star Comet was first into the straight two lengths clear of Ripon Abbey, with Wiltshire. Uralla and Vivo nest. Once over the last fence Wiltshire challenged and finished well t,o beat Star Comet by a length Vivo was two and a-half lengths away third and Cybele fourth. Then came Uralla Odin. Boomerday and Highflown. Wiltshire won nicely and Star Comet am' Cybele shaped particularly well for beginners. More patiently ridden Star Comet may have won. Vivo went a good race and only for nearly losing her rider at the fence near the fivefurlong post wonld have been closer. Glena Bay fell at the second fence. Gala Day and Highflown were never prominent. Princa of Orange Wins. There were 27 runners in the Maiden stakes and most support came for f he deasurer-Kingsiiand bracket, the Prince of )range-Te Hoi a bracket and Just Neil, lingsland and Look-Out moved first, but Cruachan soon ran to the front to lead tcross the top from Princess Sncw. Parait Amour. Look-Out and Prince of Orange Truacban and Princess Snow were together n front entering the straight with Parfait imour, Look-Out and Prince of Orange landy. Cruachan, Princess Snow and Par:'ait Amour were fighting it out inside the iistance when Prince of Orange came with i strong run on the outside to win by o seek from Cruachan. Parfnit Amour was i lengih and a-half away third and Priu :ess Snow fourth Then followed Ju-. S'ell, Thurnus and Little Toy. Prince ti Drange was too solid for the others at the inish. Cruachan displayed speed and should improve Princess Snow is another .ikely improver. Parfait Amour drew the ;xtreme outside at the Etart and ran a fine race. Measurer was never sighted. Outsiders in Juvenile. Another large field lined up for the Juvenile Handicap and Royal Finance was i shade better fancied than Praetor, whe hnd a good call over Bennie Valstreel whipped round at the start and took nc part in the race. Pelletfe and Awomuti: began, quickest and were the leaders across lbs top from Currajcng, Rose Lupin. Crime stor and Bennie. Awamutu and Pellet* were together in front rounding the bene followed by Rose Lupin. Bennie. Roya Finance and Crimesior. Once in linn foi the post Rose Lupin. Bennie and Roya. Finance challenged and then !• raser camf ;'a.st on the outside. It was a battle roya over the !;ast ijOycls anct Rose Lup;n juf lasted long enough to win by a head iron Eraser, who defeated Peileite by a =>hor neck. Crimesior was fourth closely fol lowed by Royal Finance. Trig and Benme With a stronger horseman aboard Frasar who came from a long way buck. wou!< have won. Rose Lupin was one of tb< outsiders and returned a dividend of nearl; two score. Royal Finance and Praetor wer both badly drawn at the post and Praeto was never in the picture. Aussie's Brilliant Win. The Storey Memorial Cup wns a grea betting race, with Corinas a little bette fancied than Attssie and Mervette air heavilv backed, liervette and Le Chouci were first to show out. but Attssie soon rai to the front to lead along the back, wher Mosa.ue ran into second position in fron of In The Shade. Ti Tree. Wenday, Deser Glow. Flying Juliet and Royal Doulton with Queen Arch moving up. Across th top- Aussie was still making play fror Mosque, with Queen Arch, Ti Tree, Kin Lu, Royal Doulton and Flying Juliet a; fairly close. Aussie was still in charge en tering the straight from Mosque. Quee: Arch, Kins: Lu. Royal Doulton and Carinas Aussia held his own in the run home an won all out by half a length from Mosque Carinas, finishing on, was a similar dif tanes away third and In The Shade wh put up "!b. over-weight, fourth. Then cam King Lu. Thursby and Royal Douitor Aussie's performance was brilliant and h demonstrated that he can run a middles dii tance really well. Mosque ran a solid rat and likewise Corinai:, who did not have th best of passages. In The Shade ran hi best race for some time King Lu faile after having every chance and Mervette wa never prominent in the final stages. Impressive Finishing Effort. Another good pool on the Linley Har Handicap saw Indolent a slightly bom ■fancy than Kaha. who had a fair call 0"\ c Te Money. Rangikaha was badly left n the start and Indolent also dwelt slightly Gay Cockade soon showed out in front an was in charge along the hack from Alwayi Arikitoa, Some Lady. Blacl; Maire an Brampton, with Indolent running throug fast. Running across the top Arijdtoa. ws just leading Gay Cockade with Black Main Always. Indolent; and Brampton handy an Kaha moving up. Arikitoa and Gay Cod ade were first round the bend, closely fo lowed by Indolent, Black Mairc, Always an Kaha. Inside thp furlong post Indoler headed the leaders and then Kaha challenge on the outside Kaha came on strongly an won by three-psrts of a length from Indlent, who best Te Money by a similar dii tancc. Gay Cockada was fonrth. succeede by Always. Black Mairo and Hakanos Kaha'a finishing effort was impressive. I: do'ient was a trifle unlucky. Te Mone was prominent until the last furlon and finished fast Blsct; Mairc also ra a decent race and may soon do better Paddon's Surprise. An outsider in Paddon effected a big bu: prise in the Puketaha High-weight Hand cap. for which Mitbra was a food favourit over Respirator and Paitonu. Prince L i was first to begin and showed the way alon the back to Paddon. Owairaka (who ra through quickly after dwelling slightly r the start). Sir Russell. Hipo and Respir; tor Running across the top Sir Russe moved up on the outside, otherwise thei was no change in the leading position Prince Lu was still in charge turning ft home, with Owairaka Sir Russell and Pac don right up and then Respirator and B3pi Once in line for the post Paddou ran I the lead and stayed on to win by thr< parts of a length from Respirator. Mithi was a neck away third and Sir Russe fourth. Next to finish were Hipo. Bnr< meter and Paitonu. Paddon was bavin his first run for many months and provt more forward than generally believed. R spirator ran a solid rac* and Mithra can from a good way back Sir Russell mac his best showing for some time and Pait on will bo improved by the run.

There was solid wagering on the President's Handicap, with Vallar, Kingfield and Benzora very evenly backed. Several horses gave trouble at the start and Tea Time was eventually left Btaudinj;. while Kingfield was half turned round. Subdivision was quickly prominent from Takutama. Billikins, Ludy Quex and Vallar Running across the top Vallar ran up to Subdivision and they were the leaders into the straight from Town Bird. Lady Quex. Billikins and Ruffles. Vallar had charge at the distance and looked like winning when New Moon and Benzora came fast on the outside. Benzora travelled fast over the lust 100 yds and got up to win by half a length from New Moon, who defeated Vallar by a neck. Macroom was fourth, followed by Lady Quex. King field and Subdivision. Benzora was awkwardly placed on the rails rearing the turn and finished in great style once ho got dear. New Moon uluo came home Btrongly. Vullar may have done better if his rider had realised the danger from New Moon and Benzora sooner. Kingfield wub unlucky and would have gone verj close to winning if he had iumped out with his usual dash. For the Beercscourt Hack Handicap. Valuation was in slightly more demand than Standfast, with Brilliant Ljght and Unoco also strongly supported. Valuation dwelt at the start and Standfast was left Buine lengths. Brilliant Light was early in th<= lead from Luminary, Maori Boy and MarlMint. Brilliant Light carried on the running across the tup. where Mark Mint ran into second position in front of Air King. Valuation (who ran up very fast on the outside) and Unoco; Maori Boy having dropped back. Brilliant Light was th; leader into the straight from Mark Mint, Aijr King, Unoco, Valuation, and Maori Boy. Inside the distance Muori Boy challenged on the rails and Unoco came 011 the outside. In a good finish Unoco won bv a head from Brilliant Light, with Maori Boy a similar distance away third. Mark Mint was fourth, followed by Some Lady, Standlast and Orchus. Unoco finished on well and Brilliant Light went a very solid race Maori Boy was a trifle unlucky and Stand lu.st. did well to finish sixth aftei bein" left ana running very wide at the home turn. Mnrk Mint raced like an improver. Valuation's failure can be overlooked. TO-DAY'S ACCEPTANCES. GOOD FIELDS ENGAGED. '* BY ARCHER. After yesterday's rain the going is likeb d to be heavy and recent form nun < therefore receive some upsets. It may ot j wise to follow the proved performers ir heavy ground who huve shown some forn k lately. .3 There is material for a good contest it the Raglan Hurdles. Kawini and Pour should race well, and Vivo, who waft un d lucky on Saturday, should be dangerous Ripon Abbey. Star Comet and Cybeie max , be all the better for their run on tin opening dav and Hiehflown is also a !ikeh <3 improver. It. should be a good bettin: it race, with Pouri. Vivo and Star Comet ir. j demand. A field of moderates will contest the d Ohinewai H audi can. and anything might >. win. As the field will be large, luck sboulc be an important factor. Parfait Aimour, Princess Snow and Measurer may be i,n do d mand. „ . The Eureka Handicap has at tract ec seventeen acceptors and runners are likeb '* to bo numerous On a firm track Gem y linfit and Motere would be favoured. HowE ever, it i« unlikely that the ground wih be anything but heavy, and in the circnm D stances Motere. Fraser and Bennio mat command si rung support. . _ Tliere is another large field m tha le Rapa Handicap and the event bears a vers open aspect. Ivinc Lu and Benzora- arc r ' sure to run good races, and lower down i- there are others with good chances. lh£ e wagering is likely to be spirited, and Kmc Lu. Benzora and Paitonu may claim stronc u support. ... . g A nice field of hacks will contest the n Huntlv Handicap, and it in an open race. Kaha won nicely on the opening dav and II should ugain go well. Form also sumrests 1- Maori Bov, Unoco. Brilliant Light, Archill leen and Indolent all having good chances Kaha may be favourite over Indolent and e Black Mai re. . s- There is a fair field in the Rancinr , r Handicap. Queen Arch is very partial tr , soft going and reads particularly well placed i- i u this class. She will probably be the 3. favourite and there may -'• v o be sutwiorl . for Schorr and Prince Lu. The Flying Handicap bears an open * aspect. Kingfield was unlucky on the open in# dfiy and should ffo well if no displnv® the saiTie dash. VaUflT in &ffa.in likely IjC rnoe prominently and there are man? ■ osuiJ- bilities among the others, especially on a B soft track. Kingfield.. Vallar and Btllikiii* ,j may be fancied. Some speedv hacks ficure n the Te Rort o- Handicap and it should be a good bettinc le race. If Valuation is started he is sure to l B command attention, despite his defeat on t.]i« opening day. In bis absence Air lvinc. u Leitrim and Mark Mint may find solid backing.
