"TIN POT" LOCAL BODIES.

Sir, —According to the newspaper report of the address by tho Mayor of Auckland, at Parnell, tho independent local bodies wero somewhat contemptuously referred to as "tin pot." tho engineering department of that august body, the City Council, may learn something from little One 'lree Hill During the inquiry about the bursting of the Mount Eden reservoir it transpired that tho only method of ascertaining the quantity of watpr in the reservoir was to send a man in a motor-car to Mount Eden to take a direct observation of the water level. In th<3 Ono Iree Hill roservoir there is an electrical indicator connected with the ofiico which shows at a glance the exact quantity of water in the reservoir at any moment, clay or night. I should say that in this case tho term "tin pot" applies to the man and tho motor-car. Among many other instances where wo can give tho City Council points, I will only mention the greater quantity, the better qualify, and tho cheaper price of our water supply. During the drought of a year ago tho city augmented their failing supply from One Tree Hill. Perhaps our rates may, with justice, be described as "tin pot," for they aro less than half those of the city. H. B. Donr.n;. Chairman, One Tree Hill Road Board.
