COROMANDEL INTERESTS.

SPEEDING UP MAILS.

FACILITIES FOR TELEPHONING. [BY TELEGRArH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] COKOiIANDEL, Sunday. Acting upon representations of the Coromaindel Chamber of Commerce the proprietors of the mail service car running between here and Thames have altered tho time of departure of the car daily from Thames to 2 p.m. instead of 3 p.m., as formerly. This permits of the sorting of the mail and its delivery over the counter at the post office before 5 p.m. Correspondence can thus be rejjlied to and despatched next day at 9.30 a.m. This is a distinct advantage to residents. As tho number of subscribers to tho local telephone exchange has now reached 55 it is anticipated that there will bo an early extension of tho telephone hours from 7 a'.m. to 9 p.m. as soon as the necessary arrangements are made by tho Post and Telegraph Department.

At tho School Committee election tho members elected were :—Messrs. Burcess (chairman), Beech, Harris, Howe'.l, Patterson (secretary), Pepper and E. A. Wilson. Owing to lack of pupils the Hicli School hero is to be closed down, which is a matter for regret, the minimum number of scholars (12) not bcinc procurable.
