GATHERING AT OPOTIKI.
HELPING DISTRESSED MEN. THE POPPY DAY APPEAL. [BY TELEGRAM. —OWN CORRESPONDENT. ] OPOTIKI, Saturday. The tenth annual meeting of tlio Opotiki Returned Soldiers' Association was held last night. The Rev. J. E'. Draper prosided. The annual report stated that there was again a small increase in membership. The executive had given assistance to 20 distressed returned men during th'j year, all the money being paid out of local funds. In consequence the executive is sending a remit to tho annual conference suggesting that any moneys paid over to the New Zealand Returned Soldiers' Association shall be distributed to all associations in proportion to their membership. Tho country associations are being asked to support tho remit.
Tho balance-sheet showed that assets exceed liabilities by £272. The Poppy Day appeal last year realised £24, but this year about £4O had been raised. The election of officers resulted: President, Rev. J. E. Draper; vice-presi-dents, Messrs. M. B. Abbot and P. ft. Burton; committee, Messrs. E. Bunkall, T. H. Pearson, G. Reeves, W. Newell, G. Dawson, E. J. Baigcnt, W. Keenlyside, F. Bridger, J. Mansell, R. H. Dickinson, M. Vanstone and J. B. Armstrong; hon. solicitor, Mr. G. B. Murray; hon. auditor, Mr. E. Herring.

OFFICERS FOR YEAR ELECTED. [BT TELEGRAM. —OWN' CORRESPONDENT.! TE KUITI, Sunday. The annual reunion of the To Kuiti and District Returned Soldiers' Associalion was held at "ihe week-end, Mr. J. D. K. Dodds presiding over a large gathering. The election of officers for the ensuing year resulted:—Patron, Mr. J. C. liolleston; president, Mr. J. D. K. Dodds; vicepresidents, Messrs. A. C. Shearer, W. Rundle; committee, Messrs. H. T. Morton, J. D. Vernon, \V. E. Cayley Alexander, C. H. Tate, A. D. McLennan, F. Rochfort, M. Jones, J. W. West, H. Innes, A. C. Finlayson, J. Thornton, 0.
