ADVISERS TO DEPARTMENT.

TEN MEMBERS APPOINTED. EARLY MEETING PROPOSED. [BY TELEGRAM. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.! WELLINGTON, Saturday. Tho Minister of Transport, tho Hon. W. A. Vcitch, announced to-day that tho following gentlemen havo accepted positions on tho Transport Advisory Council • Mr. 11. Masters (Stratford), Government nominee, to bo chairman of the council; Mr. H. C. Jones (Auckland), representative of the North Island Motor Union; Mr. H. llalliday (Dunedin), representative of tho South Island Motor Union; Mr. G. A. 'lroup (Wellington), representative of tho New Zealand Municipal Association; Mr. E. Smith (Christchurch), representative of tho New Zealand Master Carriers' Federation; Mr. 11. L. Rogers (Wellington), representative of tho wholesale and retail motor trades of New Zealand; Mr. A. Farlane (Wellington), representative of tho labour engaged in transport work generally; Mr. William Morrison (Maxwell), representative of tlio New Zealand Counties' Association; Mr. IL J. Knight (Wellington), representative of the service car propriators; Mr. L. A. Lonergan (Wellington), representative of the motor omnibus proprietors. Tho work of completing the setting up of the council is now in hand, and it is hoped to call the members together at an early date. The Minister expressed himself as being highly satisfied with tho council, which ho was certain would bring specialised knowledge to tlio assistance of the Transport Department and to. himself. Ho said he felt sure that it would be of immense value in solving tho problems of transport, which would have to be tackled at an early date. Tlio members of the council arc all wellknown and able men, whose work hits brought llicm into close touch with the various aspects of transport and the problems relating to it. Mr. S. Masters, Government nominee and chairman, has had wide experience in business and public life. He is head of the firm of R. Masters, Limited, merchants, of Stratford. He represented Stratford in Parliament for a number of years.

Mr. Jones is well known throughout New Zealand in connection with motoring matters. He is at present a vice-presi-dent of both the Auckland Automobile Association and the North Island Motor Union. He was for many years connected with the motor trade and during that period occupied the positions of president of the Auckland Motor Trade Association and also president of the New Zealand Motor Trade Association, of which body he is a life member. Mr. Halliday is a well-known business man, and by his long connection with the Automobile Association will bring to the council a great deal of valuable information relating to transport generaily. Mr. Troup, who is Miyor of Wellington, has had a long and active business and public career, and his knowledge of transport problems as they affect local bodies, in both the cities and the smaller municipalities, will be of the greatest assistance to (he council.

Mr. Smith is tho president of the Master Carriers' Association of Christchurch.

Mr Rogers is the managing director of the firm of Inglis Brothers and Company. Limited, of Wellington, motor importers. Mr. Parlane is the secretary of the New Zealand Federated Drivers and Related Trades Industrial Association of Workers.

Mr. Morrison is a farmer in the Wanganui district, and is chairman of the Waitofara County Council.

Mr. Knight is secretary of the White Star Tourist Service, Limited. Mr. Lonergan was New Zealand delegate fo tho Motor Transport Congress in New ork in 1925. TTe has been asso. ciated with motor transport for the past 20 years.
