PARISHIONERS' MEETING.
CHRIST CHURCH, WHANGAREI

The annual meeting of the parishioners of Christ Church was held last evening in the Parish Hall. The vicar presided. The church • wardens, Messrs. J. W. Otway and W. R. J. Moody, presented their report. They drew attention to the fact that the vicar had worked singlehanded for more than a year, but said they hoped that ere long a curate would be engaged and the widely-scattered district would be adequately ministered to. The ladies of the mothers' union had by various means contributed handsomely to the decoration of the church. A new reredos and altar frontals had been provided by the help of willing workers, the church-yard had been put into good order, the building fund had been increased, and, though yet small, would grow if given the support it merited. The Portland people were to be congratulated on the near approach of the beginning of the erection of their church. The choir at Christ Church, under the organiser, Mr, Marsden Woods, had made great strides and already had contributed largely to the more reverent and worthy offering of public worship. Hie balance-sheet, which was read and adopted, showed that the total, income for the year was £1066, of which £497 was contributed through the duplex envelope system;
