SOUTH ISLAND NEGLECTED.

RAILWAY MINISTER'S VIEW.

[by telegraph.—press association.] BLENHEIM, Saturday. The Minister of Railways, the Hon. W. B. Taverner, who is visiting Blenheim, said Le woald return in a few weeks and inspect the route of the South Island trunk line. He said the South Island had been neglected in the past and had not had a fair share of consideration or developmental expenditure. If the proposed steamer service between Melbourne, Hobart and Bluff was established it would, in conjunction with the completion of the Main Trunk railway, do much to put the South Island on the map.
